After 16 years as a Sydney icon, The Rocks Market is being revitalised. Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority is introducing fresh produce to create the city's premier Farmers' Market, open only to genuine farmers and producers.

The Authority is also introducing a new directional Designers' Market which will showcase fashion, home wares, accessories, artwork and gifts. And the traditional area of The Rocks Market will be devoted to goods, products and services that are unique, authentic, high quality, inspiring, current, contemporary, relevant, customised, and Australian.

The objectives of the revitalisation are to:

• Create a market experience with a point of difference from other markets in Sydney
• Create a market experience that encourages visitors to explore the precinct through constant change, providing something new to discover each visit
• Develop a market which creates minimal environmental impact and works towards the sustainability objectives of the Authority
• Create an authentic farmers' market which engenders a sense of community in the precinct and supports sustainable agricultural practice
• Foster local creative talent and designers
• Create a market which stimulates repeat visitation by Sydneysiders and visitors to Sydney alike
• Encourage Australian made products

The revitalised Rocks Market will also be launched in 2008 and will continue to operate every Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 5pm. The market will be located at the northern end of George Street, The Rocks and will also be expanded into other parts of The Rocks to allow for a greater number of stalls.

The canopy on George Street will be retained substantially as it is until late 2008 and the Authority will explore options to ensure that every stall has appropriate weather protection.

We are not currently accepting any new applications to become a stallholder at The Rocks Market however please click here to submit your name and email address and we will send you a notification when we next conduct a call for applications.

An implementation liaison group has recently been established to work with stallholders to ensure The Rocks Market is retained as a must see destination for both locals and visitors.
